Longest Serving Orange County Elected Official Calls Bartlett “Best and Only Choice for South Orange County”

DANA POINT, CA-Today, Mayor Lisa Bartlett, candidate for Orange County Supervisor, 5th District, announced the official endorsement from former Orange County Sheriff and respected public safety leader, Brad Gates.

“Mayor Bartlett has been an effective advocate for Dana Point, and its surrounding communities, when it comes to keeping our neighborhoods safe. Her leadership on creating the Contract Cities Working Group is a testament to the kind of leadership she will bring to the Board of Supervisors,” said former Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates.

“It is truly an honor to receive the endorsement of former Orange County Sheriff and 5th District resident Brad Gates. Public safety is the number one responsibility of our government. I look forward to continuing this cause with the help of Sheriff Gates,” responded Lisa Bartlett.

Sheriff Gates was first elected in 1974. During his six terms as Orange County Sheriff, Gates responded to many local public safety needs that included expanding the department to over 3,000 members, opening a new County Release Center to reduce overcrowding, and was a main proponent in bringing the department out of a severe bankruptcy. Since his retirement in 1999, Gates has continued to be a leader in the public safety and political community.

Dana Point Mayor Lisa Bartlett, a two-term City Councilwoman, successfully advanced to the November Run Off Election receiving over 28% of the vote in the June Primary Election for Orange County Supervisor of the 5th District, currently held by termed-out Supervisor Patricia Bates. Mayor Bartlett was born and raised in Southern California and has been a resident of Dana Point for over 20 years. She has been an active voice and participant in the city’s evolution into one of the most internationally desirable destination resort communities along California’s coast. Her policy initiatives have led to job creation and economic growth in the South Orange County region.

The Fifth District encompasses the South County Cities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, the community of Shady Canyon in the City of Irvine, as well as the unincorporated communities of Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores, and Wagon Wheel.
