Joins Team Bartlett as Campaign Co-Chair

DANA POINT, CA-Today, Dana Point Mayor Lisa Bartlett, candidate for Orange County Supervisor in the 5th District, announced the endorsement of former Secretary of Education Marian Bergeson.

“Lisa Bartlett has proven she is the only candidate with the experience needed to adequately represent the 5th District on the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Whether its in her role as Mayor of Dana Point or as Chairwoman of the Foothill Eastern 241 Toll Road agency, Mayor Bartlett has successfully implemented reforms leading to a leaner, more efficient government for taxpayers,” said Hon. Marian Bergeson.

“It is a great honor to earn the support of one of our region’s most highly respected leaders.  Secretary Bergeson has dedicated many years of service and leadership to our communities.  I look forward to serving the 5th District in that same spirit of regional collaboration so we may continue to advance the priorities of South Orange County and protect our quality of life,” responded Mayor Lisa Bartlett.

Secretary Marian Bergeson was the first woman to serve in both houses of the California Legislature, serving as State Assemblywoman and State Senator from 1978-1995. After her service in the legislature, Secretary Bergeson was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors representing the 5th District. In 1996, Governor Pete Wilson appointed her as California Secretary of Education and then she served on the California State Board of Education. In 2004, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Bergeson to the California Transportation Commission where she served two terms. Since then, she has remained active in conservative organizations in Orange County and has established the Marian Bergeson Excellence in Public Service Series for local, young Republican women who are future leaders of the party and community.

Dana Point Mayor Lisa Bartlett, a two-term City Councilwoman, successfully advanced to the November Run Off Election receiving over 28% of the vote in the June Primary Election for Orange County Supervisor of the 5th District currently held by termed-out Supervisor Patricia Bates. Mayor Bartlett was born and raised in Southern California and has been a resident of Dana Point for over 20 years. She has been an active voice and participant in the city’s evolution into one of the most internationally desirable destination resort communities along California’s coast. Her policy initiatives have led to job creation and economic growth in the South Orange County region. The Fifth District encompasses the South County Cities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, the community of Shady Canyon in the City of Irvine, as well as the unincorporated communities of Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores, and Wagon Wheel.
